OUR STORY

Becoming a 501c3 Tax Exempt Nonprofit Organization

Here at Blue Lotus Cultural Institute Inc., we’re committed to investing our expertise and resources in our youth.  Since 1994, Deborah Page, the founder of Blue Lotus has volunteered in many leadership and support capacities for the benefit of youth, family and the community.  The founding of Blue Lotus in 2019 as a 501c3 tax exempt nonprofit organization, culminates nearly 30 years of dedicated passion to supporting and providing youth enrichment activities.

Deborah tells the story:  Our signature program, "Global Manners Matter to Us!" is inspired by one of my sister's teaching moments many years ago to her niece.  Auntie said, "You must sit with your legs closed like you're holding a penny between your knees."  Auntie's niece was wearing a dress that day in church, and she needed to know how to sit like a young lady.  This vivid picture reminded me in that moment that manners and etiquette are important skills that youth need.  "Sit like you're holding a penny,..." many years of volunteer leadership, and decades of supporting youth, family and community enrichment - planted seeds, tilled and watered the soil, and provided sunshine to inspire our signature program:  "Global Manners Matter to Us!"

The blue lotus flower is our symbol, and its use as our name came one day after Deborah listened to Shekhem Ur Shekhem Dr. Ra Un Nefer Amen I of the Ausar  Auset Society eloquently speak about how the blue lotus flower represented transformation and devotion to begin anew.  This "aha" moment launched Deborah's deeper study of the flower.  It grows from the murky depths of water; and it transforms as it blooms during the day, and closes at night.  In the Buddhist tradition the blue lotus represents wisdom, and in the Egyptian tradition - transformation.  The Blue Lotus Cultural Institute seeks to be a catalyst to improve the lives and well being of youth, family and the community.

With the founding of Blue Lotus  as a 501c3 tax exempt nonprofit in 2019, a team of highly skilled and dedicated Board Members continue the passion for our youth and community.  We measure our success not by monetary size, but by more qualitative measurements such as the scale and effectiveness of our efforts for the youth, family and community. Just imagine what we can achieve together!
